59. The Gathering (Al-Hashr)
059.001 All that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth glorifieth Allah, and He is the Mighty, the Wise.
059.002 He it is Who hath caused those of the People of the Scripture who disbelieved to go forth from their homes unto the first exile. Ye deemed not that they would go forth, while they deemed that their strongholds would protect them from Allah. But Allah reached them from a place whereof they recked not, and cast terror in their hearts so that they ruined their houses with their own hands and the hands of the believers. So learn a lesson, O ye who have eyes!
059.003 And if Allah had not decreed migration for them, He verily would have punished them in the world, and theirs in the Hereafter is the punishment of the Fire.
059.004 That is because they were opposed to Allah and His messenger; and whoso is opposed to Allah, (for him) verily Allah is stern in reprisal.
059.005 Whatsoever palm-trees ye cut down or left standing on their roots, it was by Allah's leave, in order that He might confound the evil-livers.
059.006 And that which Allah gave as spoil unto His messenger from them, ye urged not any horse or riding-camel for the sake thereof, but Allah giveth His messenger lordship over whom He will. Allah is Able to do all things.
059.007 That which Allah giveth as spoil unto His messenger from the people of the townships, it is for Allah and His messenger and for the near of kin and the orphans and the needy and the wayfarer, that it become not a commodity between the rich among you. And whatsoever the messenger giveth you, take it. And whatsoever he forbiddeth, abstain (from it). And keep your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is stern in reprisal.
059.008 And (it is) for the poor fugitives who have been driven out from their homes and their belongings, who seek bounty from Allah and help Allah and His messenger. They are the loyal.
059.009 Those who entered the city and the faith before them love those who flee unto them for refuge, and find in their breasts no need for that which hath been given them, but prefer (the fugitives) above themselves though poverty become their lot. And whoso is saved from his own avarice - such are they who are successful.
059.010 And those who came (into the faith) after them say: Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who were before us in the faith, and place not in our hearts any rancour toward those who believe. Our Lord! Thou art Full of Pity, Merciful.
059.011 Hast thou not observed those who are hypocrites, (how) they tell their brethren who disbelieve among the People of the Scripture: If ye are driven out, we surely will go out with you, and we will never obey anyone against you, and if ye are attacked we verily will help you. And Allah beareth witness that they verily are liars.
059.012 (For) indeed if they are driven out they go not out with them, and indeed if they are attacked they help them not, and indeed if they had helped them they would have turned and fled, and then they would not have been victorious.
059.013 Ye are more awful as a fear in their bosoms than Allah. That is because they are a folk who understand not.
059.014 They will not fight against you in a body save in fortified villages or from behind walls. Their adversity among themselves is very great. Ye think of them as a whole whereas their hearts are divers. That is because they are a folk who have no sense.
059.015 On the likeness of those (who suffered) a short time before them, they taste the ill-effects of their own conduct, and theirs is painful punishment.
059.016 (And the hypocrites are) on the likeness of the devil when he telleth man to disbelieve, then, when he disbelieveth saith: Lo! I am quit of thee. Lo! I fear Allah, the Lord of the Worlds.
059.017 And the consequence for both will be that they are in the Fire, therein abiding. Such is the reward of evil-doers.
059.018 O ye who believe! Observe your duty to Allah. And let every soul look to that which it sendeth on before for the morrow. And observe your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is Informed of what ye do.
059.019 And be not ye as those who forgot Allah, therefor He caused them to forget their souls. Such are the evil-doers.
059.020 Not equal are the owners of the Fire and the owners of the Garden. The owners of the Garden, they are the victorious.
059.021 If We had caused this Qur'an to descend upon a mountain, thou (O Muhammad) verily hadst seen it humbled, rent asunder by the fear of Allah. Such similitudes coin We for mankind that haply they may reflect.
059.022 He is Allah, than Whom there is no other God, the Knower of the Invisible and the Visible. He is the Beneficent, Merciful.
059.023 He is Allah, than Whom there is no other God, the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One, Peace, the Keeper of Faith, the Guardian, the Majestic, the Compeller, the Superb. Glorified be Allah from all that they ascribe as partner (unto Him).
059.024 He is Allah, the Creator, the Shaper out of naught, the Fashioner. His are the most beautiful names. All that is in the heavens and the earth glorifieth Him, and He is the Mighty, the Wise.
60. The Woman to be Examined (Al-Mumtahana)
060.001 O ye who believe! Choose not My enemy and your enemy for allies. Do ye give them friendship when they disbelieve in that truth which hath come unto you, driving out the messenger and you because ye believe in Allah, your Lord ? If ye have come forth to strive in My way and seeking My good pleasure, (show them not friendship). Do ye show friendship unto them in secret, when I am Best Aware of what ye hide and what ye proclaim ? And whosoever doeth it among you, he verily hath strayed from the right way.
060.002 If they have the upper hand of you, they will be your foes, and will stretch out their hands and their tongues toward you with evil (intent), and they long for you to disbelieve.
060.003 Your ties of kindred and your children will avail you naught upon the Day of Resurrection. He will part you. Allah is Seer of what ye do.
060.004 There is a goodly pattern for you in Abraham and those with him, when they told their folk: Lo! we are guiltless of you and all that ye worship beside Allah. We have done with you. And there hath arisen between us and you hostility and hate for ever until ye believe in Allah only - save that which Abraham promised his father (when he said): I will ask forgiveness for thee, though I own nothing for thee from Allah - Our Lord! In Thee we put our trust, and unto Thee we turn repentant, and unto Thee is the journeying.
060.005 Our Lord! Make us not a prey for those who disbelieve, and forgive us, our Lord! Lo! Thou, only Thou, are the Mighty, the Wise.
060.006 Verily ye have in them a goodly pattern for everyone who looketh to Allah and the Last Day. And whosoever may turn away, lo! still Allah, He is the Absolute, the Owner of Praise.
060.007 It may be that Allah will ordain love between you and those of them with whom ye are at enmity. Allah is Mighty, and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
060.008 Allah forbiddeth you not those who warred not against you on account of religion and drove you not out from your homes, that ye should show them kindness and deal justly with them. Lo! Allah loveth the just dealers.
060.009 Allah forbiddeth you only those who warred against you on account of religion and have driven you out from your homes and helped to drive you out, that ye make friends of them. Whosoever maketh friends of them - (All) such are wrong-doers.
060.010 O ye who believe! When believing women come unto you as fugitives, examine them. Allah is Best Aware of their faith. Then, if ye know them for true believers, send them not back unto the disbelievers. They are not lawful for them (the disbelievers), nor are they (the disbelievers) lawful for them. And give them (the disbelievers) that which they have spent (upon them). And it is no sin for you to marry such women when ye have given them their dues. And hold not to the ties of disbelieving women; and ask for (the return of) that which ye have spent; and let them (the disbelievers) ask for that which they have spent. That is the judgment of Allah. He judgeth between you. Allah is Knower, Wise.
060.011 And if any of your wives have gone from you unto the disbelievers and afterward ye have your turn (of triumph), then give unto those whose wives have gone the like of that which they have spent, and keep your duty to Allah in Whom ye are believers.
060.012 O Prophet! If believing women come unto thee, taking oath of allegiance unto thee that they will ascribe no thing as partner unto Allah, and will neither steal nor commit adultery nor kill their children, nor produce any lie that they have devised between their hands and feet, nor disobey thee in what is right, then accept their allegiance and ask Allah to forgive them. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
060.013 O ye who believe! Be not friendly with a folk with whom Allah is wroth, (a folk) who have despaired of the Hereafter as the disbelievers despair of those who are in the graves.61. Battle Array (As -Saff)
061.001 All that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth glorifieth Allah, and He is the Mighty, the Wise.
061.002 O ye who believe! Why say ye that which ye do not ?
061.003 It is most hateful in the sight of Allah that ye say that which ye do not.
061.004 Lo! Allah loveth them who battle for His cause in ranks, as if they were a solid structure.
061.005 And (remember) when Moses said unto his people: O my people! Why persecute ye me, when ye well know that I am Allah's messenger unto you ? So when they went astray Allah sent their hearts astray. And Allah guideth not the evil-living folk.
061.006 And when Jesus son of Mary said: O Children of Israel! Lo! I am the messenger of Allah unto you, confirming that which was (revealed) before me in the Torah, and bringing good tidings of a messenger who cometh after me, whose name is the Praised One. Yet when he hath come unto them with clear proofs, they say: This is mere magic.
061.007 And who doeth greater wrong than he who inventeth a lie against Allah when he is summoned unto Al-Islam ? And Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.
061.008 Fain would they put out the light of Allah with their mouths, but Allah will perfect His light however much the disbelievers are averse.
061.009 He it is Who hath sent His messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth, that He may make it conqueror of all religion however much idolaters may be averse.
061.010 O ye who believe! Shall I show you a commerce that will save you from a painful doom ?
061.011 Ye should believe in Allah and His messenger, and should strive for the cause of Allah with your wealth and your lives. That is better for you, if ye did but know.
061.012 He will forgive you your sins and bring you into Gardens underneath which rivers flow, and pleasant dwellings in Gardens of Eden. That is the supreme triumph.
061.013 And (He will give you) another (blessing) which ye love: help from Allah and present victory. Give good tidings (O Muhammad) to believers.
061.014 O ye who believe! Be Allah's helpers, even as Jesus son of Mary said unto the disciples: Who are my helpers for Allah ? They said: We are Allah's helpers. And a party of the Children of Israel believed, while a party disbelieved. Then We strengthened those who believed against their foe, and they became the uppermost.62. The Assembly (Friday) Prayer (Al-Jumuá)
062.001 All that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth glorifieth Allah, the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One, the Mighty, the Wise.
062.002 He it is Who hath sent among the unlettered ones a messenger of their own, to recite unto them His revelations and to make them grow, and to teach them the Scripture and wisdom, though heretofore they were indeed in error manifest,
062.003 Along with others of them who have not yet joined them. He is the Mighty, the Wise.
062.004 That is the bounty of Allah; which He giveth unto whom He will. Allah is of Infinite Bounty.
062.005 The likeness of those who are entrusted with the Law of Moses, yet apply it not, is as the likeness of the ass carrying books. Wretched is the likeness of folk who deny the revelations of Allah. And Allah guideth not wrongdoing folk.
062.006 Say (O Muhammad): O ye who are Jews! If ye claim that ye are favoured of Allah apart from (all) mankind, then long for death if ye are truthful.
062.007 But they will never long for it because of all that their own hands have sent before, and Allah is Aware of evil-doers.
062.008 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Lo! the death from which ye shrink will surely meet you, and afterward ye will be returned unto the Knower of the Invisible and the Visible, and He will tell you what ye used to do.
062.009 O ye who believe! When the call is heard for the prayer of the day of congregation, haste unto remembrance of Allah and leave your trading. That is better for you if ye did but know.
062.010 And when the prayer is ended, then disperse in the land and seek of Allah's bounty, and remember Allah much, that ye may be successful.
062.011 But when they spy some merchandise or pastime they break away to it and leave thee standing. Say: That which Allah hath is better than pastime and than merchandise, and Allah is the Best of providers.63. The Hypocrites ( Al-Munáfiqün)
063.001 When the hypocrites come unto thee (O Muhammad), they say: We bear witness that thou art indeed Allah's messenger. And Allah knoweth that thou art indeed His messenger, and Allah beareth witness that the hypocrites indeed are speaking falsely.
063.002 They make their faith a pretext so that they may turn (men) from the way of Allah. Verily evil is that which they are wont to do,
063.003 That is because they believed, then disbelieved, therefore their hearts are sealed so that they understand not.
063.004 And when thou seest them their figures please thee; and if they speak thou givest ear unto their speech. (They are) as though they were blocks of wood in striped cloaks. They deem every shout to be against them. They are the enemy, so beware of them. Allah confound them! How they are perverted!
063.005 And when it is said unto them: Come! The messenger of Allah will ask forgiveness for you! they avert their faces and thou seest them turning away, disdainful.
063.006 Whether thou ask forgiveness for them or ask not forgiveness for them is all one for them; Allah will not forgive them. Lo! Allah guideth not the evil-living folk.
063.007 They it is who say: Spend not on behalf of those (who dwell) with Allah's messenger that they may disperse (and go away from you); when Allah's are the treasures of the heavens and the earth; but the hypocrites comprehend not.
063.008 They say: Surely, if we return to Al-Madinah the mightier will soon drive out the weaker; when might belongeth to Allah and to His messenger and to the believers; but the hypocrites know not.
063.009 O ye who believe! Let not your wealth nor your children distract you from remembrance of Allah. Those who do so, they are the losers.
063.010 And spend of that wherewith We have provided you before death cometh unto one of you and he saith: My Lord! If only thou wouldst reprieve me for a little while, then I would give alms and be among the righteous.
063.011 But Allah reprieveth no soul when its term cometh, and Allah is Informed of what ye do.64. Mutual Loss and Gain (At-Tagábun)
064.001 All that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth glorifieth Allah; unto Him belongeth Sovereignty and unto Him belongeth praise, and He is Able to do all things.
064.002 He it is Who created you, but one of you is a disbeliever and one of you is a believer, and Allah is Seer of what ye do.
064.003 He created the heavens and the earth with truth, and He shaped you and made good your shapes, and unto Him is the journeying.
064.004 He knoweth all that is in the heavens and the earth, and He knoweth what ye conceal and what ye publish. And Allah is Aware of what is in the breasts (of men).
064.005 Hath not the story reached you of those who disbelieved of old and so did taste the ill-effects of their conduct, and theirs will be a painful doom.
064.006 That was because their messengers (from Allah) kept coming unto them with clear proofs (of Allah's Sovereignty), but they said: Shall mere mortals guide us ? So they disbelieved and turned away, and Allah was independent (of them). Allah is Absolute, Owner of Praise.
064.007 Those who disbelieve assert that they will not be raised again. Say (unto them, O Muhammad): Yea, verily, by my Lord! ye will be raised again and then ye will be informed of what ye did; and that is easy for Allah.
064.008 So believe in Allah and His messenger and the light which We have revealed. And Allah is Informed of what ye do.
064.009 The day when He shall gather you unto the Day of Assembling, that will be a day of mutual disillusion. And whoso believeth in Allah and doeth right, He will remit from him his evil deeds and will bring him unto Gardens underneath which rivers flow, therein to abide for ever. That is the supreme triumph.
064.010 But those who disbelieve and deny Our revelations, such are owners of the Fire; they will abide therein - a hapless journey's end!
064.011 No calamity befalleth save by Allah's leave. And whosoever believeth in Allah, He guideth his heart. And Allah is Knower of all things.
064.012 Obey Allah and obey His messenger; but if ye turn away, then the duty of Our messenger is only to convey (the message) plainly.
064.013 Allah! There is no God save Him. In Allah, therefore, let believers put their trust.
064.014 O ye who believe! Lo! among your wives and your children there are enemies for you, therefor beware of them. And if ye efface and overlook and forgive, then lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
064.015 Your wealth and your children are only a temptation, whereas Allah! with Him is an immense reward.
064.016 So keep your duty to Allah as best ye can, and listen, and obey, and spend; that is better for your souls. And whoso is saved from his own greed, such are the successful.
064.017 If ye lend unto Allah a goodly loan, He will double it for you and will forgive you, for Allah is Responsive, Clement,
064.018 Knower of the Invisible and the Visible, the Mighty, the Wise.65. Divorce (At-Talaq)
065.001 O Prophet! When ye (men) put away women, put them away for their (legal) period and reckon the period, and keep your duty to Allah, your Lord. Expel them not from their houses nor let them go forth unless they commit open immorality. Such are the limits (imposed by) Allah; and whoso transgresseth Allah's limits, he verily wrongeth his soul. Thou knowest not: it may be that Allah will afterward bring some new thing to pass.
065.002 Then, when they have reached their term, take them back in kindness or part from them in kindness, and call to witness two just men among you, and keep your testimony upright for Allah. Whoso believeth in Allah and the Last Day is exhorted to act thus. And whosoever keepeth his duty to Allah, Allah will appoint a way out for him,
065.003 And will provide for him from (a quarter) whence he hath no expectation. And whosoever putteth his trust in Allah, He will suffice him. Lo! Allah bringeth His command to pass. Allah hath set a measure for all things.
065.004 And for such of your women as despair of menstruation, if ye doubt, their period (of waiting) shall be three months, along with those who have it not. And for those with child, their period shall be till they bring forth their burden. And whosoever keepeth his duty to Allah, He maketh his course easy for him.
065.005 That is the commandment of Allah which He revealeth unto you. And whoso keepeth his duty to Allah, He will remit from him his evil deeds and magnify reward for him.
065.006 Lodge them where ye dwell, according to your wealth, and harass them not so as to straiten life for them. And if they are with child, then spend for them till they bring forth their burden. Then, if they give suck for you, give them their due payment and consult together in kindness; but if ye make difficulties for one another, then let some other woman give suck for him (the father of the child).
065.007 Let him who hath abundance spend of his abundance, and he whose provision is measured, let him spend of that which Allah hath given him. Allah asketh naught of any soul save that which He hath given it. Allah will vouchsafe, after hardship, ease.
065.008 And how many a community revolted against the ordinance of its Lord and His messengers, and We called it to a stern account and punished it with dire punishment,
065.009 So that it tasted the ill-effects of its conduct, and the consequence of its conduct was loss.
065.010 Allah hath prepared for them stern punishment; so keep your duty to Allah, O men of understanding! O ye who believe! Now Allah hath sent down unto you a reminder,
065.011 A messenger reciting unto you the revelations of Allah made plain, that He may bring forth those who believe and do good works from darkness unto light. And whosoever believeth in Allah and doeth right, He will bring him into Gardens underneath which rivers flow, therein to abide for ever. Allah hath made good provision for him.
065.012 Allah it is who hath created seven heavens, and of the earth the like thereof. The commandment cometh down among them slowly, that ye may know that Allah is Able to do all things, and that Allah surroundeth all things in knowledge.
66. Holding (Something) to be Forbidden (At-Tahrím)
066.001 O Prophet! Why bannest thou that which Allah hath made lawful for thee, seeking to please thy wives ? And Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.
066.002 Allah hath made lawful for you (Muslims) absolution from your oaths (of such a kind), and Allah is your Protector. He is the Knower, the Wise.
066.003 When the Prophet confided a fact unto one of his wives and when she afterward divulged it and Allah apprised him thereof, he made known (to her) part thereof and passed over part. And when he told it her she said: Who hath told thee ? He said: The Knower, the Aware hath told me.
066.004 If ye twain turn unto Allah repentant, (ye have cause to do so) for your hearts desired (the ban); and if ye aid one another against him (Muhammad) then lo! Allah, even He, is his Protecting Friend, and Gabriel and the righteous among the believers; and furthermore the angels are his helpers.
066.005 It may happen that his Lord, if he divorce you, will give him in your stead wives better than you, submissive (to Allah), believing, pious, penitent, devout, inclined to fasting, widows and maids.
066.006 O ye who believe! Ward off from yourselves and your families a Fire whereof the fuel is men and stones, over which are set angels strong, severe, who resist not Allah in that which He commandeth them, but do that which they are commanded.
066.007 (Then it will be said): O ye who disbelieve! Make no excuses for yourselves this day. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do.
066.008 O ye who believe! Turn unto Allah in sincere repentance! It may be that your Lord will remit from you your evil deeds and bring you into Gardens underneath which rivers flow, on the day when Allah will not abase the Prophet and those who believe with him. Their light will run before them and on their right hands; they will say: Our Lord! Perfect our light for us, and forgive us! Lo! Thou art Able to do all things.
066.009 O Prophet! Strive against the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and be stern with them. Hell will be their home, a hapless journey's end.
066.010 Allah citeth an example for those who disbelieve: the wife of Noah and the wife of Lot, who were under two of Our righteous slaves yet betrayed them so that they (the husbands) availed them naught against Allah and it was said (unto them): Enter the Fire along with those who enter.
066.011 And Allah citeth an example for those who believe: the wife of Pharaoh when she said: My Lord! Build for me a home with thee in the Garden, and deliver me from Pharaoh and his work, and deliver me from evil-doing folk;
066.012 And Mary, daughter of 'Imran, whose body was chaste, therefor We breathed therein something of Our Spirit. And she put faith in the words of her Lord and His scriptures, and was of the obedient.
67. The Dominion (Al -Mulk)
067.001 Blessed is He in Whose hand is the Sovereignty, and, He is Able to do all things.
067.002 Who hath created life and death that He may try you which of you is best in conduct; and He is the Mighty, the Forgiving,
067.003 Who hath created seven heavens in harmony. Thou (Muhammad) canst see no fault in the Beneficent One's creation; then look again: Canst thou see any rifts ?
067.004 Then look again and yet again, thy sight will return unto thee weakened and made dim.
067.005 And verily We have beautified the world's heaven with lamps, and We have made them missiles for the devils, and for them We have prepared the doom of flame.
067.006 And for those who disbelieve in their Lord there is the doom of hell, a hapless journey's end!
067.007 When they are flung therein they hear its roaring as it boileth up,
067.008 As it would burst with rage. Whenever a (fresh) host is flung therein the wardens thereof ask them: Came there unto you no warner ?
067.009 They say: Yea, verily, a warner came unto us; but we denied and said: Allah hath naught revealed; ye are in naught but a great error.
067.010 And they say: Had we been wont to listen or have sense, we had not been among the dwellers in the flames.
067.011 So they acknowledge their sins; but far removed (from mercy) are the dwellers in the flames.
067.012 Lo! those who fear their Lord in secret, theirs will be forgiveness and a great reward.
067.013 And keep your opinion secret or proclaim it, lo! He is Knower of all that is in the breasts (of men).
067.014 Should He not know what He created ? And He is the Subtile, the Aware.
067.015 He it is Who hath made the earth subservient unto you, so Walk in the paths thereof and eat of His providence. And unto Him will be the resurrection (of the dead).
067.016 Have ye taken security from Him Who is in the heaven that He will not cause the earth to swallow you when lo! it is convulsed ?
067.017 Or have ye taken security from Him Who is in the heaven that He will not let loose on you a hurricane ? But ye shall know the manner of My warning.
067.018 And verily those before them denied, then (see) the manner of My wrath (with them)!
067.019 Have they not seen the birds above them spreading out their wings and closing them ? Naught upholdeth them save the Beneficent. Lo! He is Seer of all things.
067.020 Or who is he that will be an army unto you to help you instead of the Beneficent ? The disbelievers are in naught but illusion.
067.021 Or who is he that will provide for you if He should withhold His providence ? Nay, but they are set in pride and frowardness.
067.022 Is he who goeth groping on his face more rightly guided, or he who walketh upright on a straight road ?
067.023 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): He it is who gave you being, and hath assigned unto you ears and eyes and hearts. Small thanks give ye!
067.024 Say: He it is Who multiplieth you in the earth, and unto Whom ye will be gathered.
067.025 And they say: When (will) this promise (be fulfilled), if ye are truthful ?
067.026 Say: The knowledge is with Allah only, and I am but a plain warner;
067.027 But when they see it nigh, the faces of those who disbelieve will be awry, and it will be said (unto them): This is that for which ye used to call.
067.028 Say (O Muhammad): Have ye thought: Whether Allah causeth me (Muhammad) and those with me to perish or hath mercy on us, still, who will protect the disbelievers from a painful doom ?
067.029 Say: He is the Beneficent. In Him we believe and in Him we put our trust. And ye will soon know who it is that is in error manifest.
067.030 Say: Have ye thought: If (all) your water were to disappear into the earth, who then could bring you gushing water ?68. The Pen, the Letter N (Al-Qalam, Nün)
068.001 Nun. By the pen and that which they write (therewith),
068.002 Thou art not, for thy Lord's favour unto thee, a madman.
068.003 And lo! thine verily will be a reward unfailing.
068.004 And lo! thou art of a tremendous nature.
068.005 And thou wilt see and they will see
068.006 Which of you is the demented.
068.007 Lo! thy Lord is Best Aware of him who strayeth from His way, and He is Best Aware of those who walk aright.
068.008 Therefor obey not thou the rejecters
068.009 Who would have had thee compromise, that they may compromise.
068.010 Neither obey thou each feeble oath-monger,
068.011 Detracter, spreader abroad of slanders,
068.012 Hinderer of the good, transgressor, malefactor
068.013 Greedy therewithal, intrusive.
068.014 It is because he is possessed of wealth and children
068.015 That, when Our revelations are recited unto him, he saith: Mere fables of the men of old.
068.016 We shall brand him on the nose.
068.017 Lo! We have tried them as We tried the owners of the garden when they vowed that they would pluck its fruit next morning,
068.018 And made no exception (for the Will of Allah);
068.019 Then a visitation from thy Lord came upon it while they slept
068.020 And in the morning it was as if plucked.
068.021 And they cried out one unto another in the morning,
068.022 Saying: Run unto your field if ye would pluck (the fruit).
068.023 So they went off, saying one unto another in low tones:
068.024 No needy man shall enter it to-day against you.
068.025 They went betimes, strong in (this) purpose.
068.026 But when they saw it, they said: Lo! we are in error!
068.027 Nay, but we are desolate!
068.028 The best among them said: Said I not unto you: Why glorify ye not (Allah) ?
068.029 They said: Glorified be our Lord! Lo! we have been wrong-doers.
068.030 Then some of them drew near unto others, self-reproaching.
068.031 They said: Alas for us! In truth we were outrageous.
068.032 It may be that our Lord will give us better than this in place thereof. Lo! we beseech our Lord.
068.033 Such was the punishment. And verily the punishment of the Hereafter is greater if they did but know.
068.034 Lo! for those who keep from evil are gardens of bliss with their Lord.
068.035 Shall We then treat those who have surrendered as We treat the guilty ?
068.036 What aileth you ? How foolishly ye judge!
068.037 Or have ye a scripture wherein ye learn
068.038 That ye shall indeed have all that ye choose ?
068.039 Or have ye a covenant on oath from Us that reacheth to the Day of Judgment, that yours shall be all that ye ordain ?
068.040 Ask them (O Muhammad) which of them will vouch for that!
068.041 Or have they other gods ? Then let them bring their other gods if they are truthful
068.042 On the day when it befalleth in earnest, and they are ordered to prostrate themselves but are not able,
068.043 With eyes downcast, abasement stupefying them. And they had been summoned to prostrate themselves while they were yet unhurt.
068.044 Leave Me (to deal) with those who give the lie to this pronouncement. We shall lead them on by steps from whence they know not.
068.045 Yet I bear with them, for lo! My scheme is firm.
068.046 Or dost thou (Muhammad) ask a fee from them so that they are heavily taxed ?
068.047 Or is the Unseen theirs that they can write (thereof) ?
068.048 But wait thou for thy Lord's decree, and be not like him of the fish, who cried out in despair.
068.049 Had it not been that favour from his Lord had reached him he surely had been cast into the wilderness while he was reprobate.
068.050 But his Lord chose him and placed him among the righteous.
068.051 And lo! those who disbelieve would fain disconcert thee with their eyes when they hear the Reminder, and they say: Lo! he is indeed mad;
068.052 When it is naught else than a Reminder to creation.69. The Sure Reality (Al-Háqqa)
069.001 The Reality!
069.002 What is the Reality ?
069.003 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the reality is!
069.004 (The tribes of) Thamud and A'ad disbelieved in the judgment to come.
069.005 As for Thamud, they were destroyed by the lightning.
069.006 And as for A'ad, they were destroyed by a fierce roaring wind,
069.007 Which He imposed on them for seven long nights and eight long days so that thou mightest have seen men lying overthrown, as they were hollow trunks of palm-trees.
069.008 Canst thou (O Muhammad) see any remnant of them ?
069.009 And Pharaoh and those before him, and the communities that were destroyed, brought error,
069.010 And they disobeyed the messenger of their Lord, therefor did He grip them with a tightening grip.
069.011 Lo! when the waters rose, We carried you upon the ship
069.012 That We might make it a memorial for you, and that remembering ears (that heard the story) might remember.
069.013 And when the trumpet shall sound one blast
069.014 And the earth with the mountains shall be lifted up and crushed with one crash,
069.015 Then, on that day will the Event befall.
069.016 And the heaven will split asunder, for that day it will be frail.
069.017 And the angels will be on the sides thereof, and eight will uphold the Throne of thy Lord that day, above them.
069.018 On that day ye will be exposed; not a secret of you will be hidden.
069.019 Then, as for him who is given his record in his right hand, he will say: Take, read my book!
069.020 Surely I knew that I should have to meet my reckoning.
069.021 Then he will be in blissful state
069.022 In a high garden
069.023 Whereof the clusters are in easy reach.
069.024 (And it will be said unto those therein): Eat and drink at ease for that which ye sent on before you in past days.
069.025 But as for him who is given his record in his left hand, he will say: Oh, would that I had not been given my book
069.026 And knew not what my reckoning!
069.027 Oh, would that it had been death!
069.028 My wealth hath not availed me,
069.029 My power hath gone from me.
069.030 (It will be said): Take him and fetter him
069.031 And then expose him to hell-fire
069.032 And then insert him in a chain whereof the length is seventy cubits.
069.033 Lo! He used not to believe in Allah the Tremendous,
069.034 And urged not on the feeding of the wretched.
069.035 Therefor hath he no lover here this day,
069.036 Nor any food save filth
069.037 Which none but sinners eat.
069.038 But nay! I swear by all that ye see
069.039 And all that ye see not
069.040 That it is indeed the speech of an illustrious messenger.
069.041 It is not poet's speech - little is it that ye believe!
069.042 Nor diviner's speech - little is it that ye remember!
069.043 It is a revelation from the Lord of the Worlds.
069.044 And if he had invented false sayings concerning Us,
069.045 We assuredly had taken him by the right hand
069.046 And then severed his life-artery,
069.047 And not one of you could have held Us off from him.
069.048 And lo! it is a warrant unto those who ward off (evil).
069.049 And lo! We know that some among you will deny (it).
069.050 And lo! it is indeed an anguish for the disbelievers.
069.051 And lo! it is absolute truth.
069.052 So glorify the name of thy Tremendous Lord.70. The Ways of Ascent (Al-Màárij)
070.001 A questioner questioned concerning the doom about to fall
070.002 Upon the disbelievers, which none can repel,
070.003 From Allah, Lord of the Ascending Stairways
070.004 (Whereby) the angels and the Spirit ascend unto Him in a Day whereof the span is fifty thousand years.
070.005 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see.
070.006 Lo! they behold it afar off
070.007 While we behold it nigh:
070.008 The day when the sky will become as molten copper,
070.009 And the hills become as flakes of wool,
070.010 And no familiar friend will ask a question of his friend
070.011 Though they will be given sight of them. The guilty man will long to be able to ransom himself from the punishment of that day at the price of his children
070.012 And his spouse and his brother
070.013 And his kin that harboured him
070.014 And all that are in the earth, if then it might deliver him.
070.015 But nay! for lo! it is the fire of hell
070.016 Eager to roast;
070.017 It calleth him who turned and fled (from truth),
070.018 And hoarded (wealth) and withheld it.
070.019 Lo! man was created anxious,
070.020 Fretful when evil befalleth him
070.021 And, when good befalleth him, grudging;
070.022 Save worshippers.
070.023 Who are constant at their worship
070.024 And in whose wealth there is a right acknowledged
070.025 For the beggar and the destitute;
070.026 And those who believe in the Day of Judgment,
070.027 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom -
070.028 Lo! the doom of their Lord is that before which none can feel secure -
070.029 And those who preserve their chastity
070.030 Save with their wives and those whom their right hands possess, for thus they are not blameworthy;
070.031 But whoso seeketh more than that, those are they who are transgressors;
070.032 And those who keep their pledges and their covenant,
070.033 And those who stand by their testimony
070.034 And those who are attentive at their worship.
070.035 These will dwell in Gardens, honoured.
070.036 What aileth those who disbelieve, that they keep staring toward thee (O Muhammad), open-eyed,
070.037 On the right and on the left, in groups ?
070.038 Doth every man among them hope to enter the Garden of Delight ?
070.039 Nay, verily. Lo! We created them from what they know.
070.040 But nay! I swear by the Lord of the rising-places and the setting-places of the planets that We verily are Able
070.041 To replace them by (others) better than them. And we are not to be outrun.
070.042 So let them chat and play until they meet their Day which they are promised,
070.043 The day when they come forth from the graves in haste, as racing to a goal,
070.044 With eyes aghast, abasement stupefying them: Such is the Day which they are promised.71. Noah (Nüh)
071.001 Lo! We sent Noah unto his people (saying): Warn thy people ere the painful doom come unto them.
071.002 He said: O my people! Lo! I am a plain warner unto you
071.003 (Bidding you): Serve Allah and keep your duty unto Him and obey me,
071.004 That He may forgive you somewhat of your sins and respite you to an appointed term. Lo! the term of Allah, when it cometh, cannot be delayed, if ye but knew.
071.005 He said: My Lord! Lo! I have called unto my people night and day
071.006 But all my calling doth but add to their repugnance;
071.007 And lo! whenever I call unto them that Thou mayst pardon them they thrust their fingers in their ears and cover themselves with their garments and persist (in their refusal) and magnify themselves in pride.
071.008 And lo! I have called unto them aloud,
071.009 And lo! I have made public proclamation unto them, and I have appealed to them in private.
071.010 And I have said: Seek pardon of your Lord. Lo! He was ever Forgiving.
071.011 He will let loose the sky for you in plenteous rain,
071.012 And will help you with wealth and sons, and will assign unto you Gardens and will assign unto you rivers.
071.013 What aileth you that ye hope not toward Allah for dignity
071.014 When He created you by (divers) stages ?
071.015 See ye not how Allah hath created seven heavens in harmony,
071.016 And hath made the moon a light therein, and made the sun a lamp ?
071.017 And Allah hath caused you to grow as a growth from the earth,
071.018 And afterward He maketh you return thereto, and He will bring you forth again, a (new) forthbringing.
071.019 And Allah hath made the earth a wide expanse for you
071.020 That ye may thread the valley-ways thereof.
071.021 Noah said: My Lord! Lo! they have disobeyed me and followed one whose wealth and children increase him in naught save ruin;
071.022 And they have plotted a mighty plot,
071.023 And they have said: Forsake not your gods. Forsake not Wadd, nor Suwa', nor Yaghuth and Ya'uq and Nasr.
071.024 And they have led many astray, and Thou increasest the wrong-doers in naught save error.
071.025 Because of their sins they were drowned, then made to enter a Fire. And they found they had no helpers in place of Allah.
071.026 And Noah said: My Lord! Leave not one of the disbelievers in the land.
071.027 If Thou shouldst leave them, they will mislead Thy slaves and will beget none save lewd ingrates.
071.028 My Lord! Forgive me and my parents and him who entereth my house believing, and believing men and believing women, and increase not the wrong-doers in aught save ruin.
072.001 Say (O Muhammad): It is revealed unto me that a company of the Jinn gave ear, and they said: Lo! we have heard a marvellous Qur'an,
072.002 Which guideth unto righteousness, so we believe in it and we ascribe no partner unto our Lord.
072.003 And (we believe) that He - exalted be the glory of our Lord! - hath taken neither wife nor son,
072.004 And that the foolish one among us used to speak concerning Allah an atrocious lie.
072.005 And lo! we had supposed that humankind and jinn would not speak a lie concerning Allah -
072.006 And indeed (O Muhammad) individuals of humankind used to invoke the protection of individuals of the jinn, so that they increased them in revolt against Allah);
072.007 And indeed they supposed, even as ye suppose, that Allah would not raise anyone (from the dead) -
072.008 And (the Jinn who had listened to the Qur'an said): We had sought the heaven but had found it filled with strong warders and meteors.
072.009 And we used to sit on places (high) therein to listen. But he who listeneth now findeth a flame in wait for him;
072.010 And we know not whether harm is boded unto all who are in the earth, or whether their Lord intendeth guidance for them.
072.011 And among us there are righteous folk and among us there are far from that. We are sects having different rules.
072.012 And we know that we cannot escape from Allah in the earth, nor can we escape by flight.
072.013 And when we heard the guidance, we believed therein, and whoso believeth in his Lord, he feareth neither loss nor oppression.
072.014 And there are among us some who have surrendered (to Allah) and there are among us some who are unjust. And whoso hath surrendered to Allah, such have taken the right path purposefully.
072.015 And as for those who are unjust, they are firewood for hell.
072.016 If they (the idolaters) tread the right path, We shall give them to drink of water in abundance
072.017 That We may test them thereby, and whoso turneth away from the remembrance of his Lord; He will thrust him into ever-growing torment.
072.018 And the places of worship are only for Allah, so pray not unto anyone along with Allah.
072.019 And when the slave of Allah stood up in prayer to Him, they crowded on him, almost stifling.
072.020 Say (unto them, O Muhammad): I pray unto Allah only, and ascribe unto Him no partner.
072.021 Say: Lo! I control not hurt nor benefit for you.
072.022 Say: Lo! none can protect me from Allah, nor can I find any refuge beside Him
072.023 (Mine is) but conveyance (of the Truth) from Allah, and His messages; and whoso disobeyeth Allah and His messenger, lo! his is fire of hell, wherein such dwell for ever.
072.024 Till (the day) when they shall behold that which they are promised (they may doubt); but then they will know (for certain) who is weaker in allies and less in multitude.
072.025 Say (O Muhammad, unto the disbelievers): I know not whether that which ye are promised is nigh, or if my Lord hath set a distant term for it.
072.026 (He is) the Knower of the Unseen, and He revealeth unto none His secret,
072.027 Save unto every messenger whom He hath chosen, and then He maketh a guard to go before him and a guard behind him
072.028 That He may know that they have indeed conveyed the messages of their Lord. He surroundeth all their doings, and He keepeth count of all things.
73. Folded in Garmen ts (Al-Muzzammil)
073.001 O thou wrapped up in thy raiment!
073.002 Keep vigil the night long, save a little -
073.003 A half thereof, or abate a little thereof
073.004 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure,
073.005 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight.
073.006 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain.
073.007 Lo! thou hast by day a chain of business.
073.008 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion -
073.009 Lord of the East and the West; there is no God save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender -
073.010 And bear with patience what they utter, and part from them with a fair leave-taking.
073.011 Leave Me to deal with the deniers, lords of ease and comfort (in this life); and do thou respite them awhile.
073.012 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire,
073.013 And food which choketh (the partaker), and a painful doom
073.014 On the day when the earth and the hills rock, and the hills become a heap of running sand.
073.015 Lo! We have sent unto you a messenger as witness against you, even as We sent unto Pharaoh a messenger.
073.016 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip.
073.017 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey,
073.018 The very heaven being then rent asunder. His promise is to be fulfilled.
073.019 Lo! This is a Reminder. Let him who will, then, choose a way unto his Lord.
073.020 Lo! thy Lord knoweth how thou keepest vigil sometimes nearly two-thirds of the night, or (sometimes) half or a third thereof, as do a party of those with thee. Allah measureth the night and the day. He knoweth that ye count it not, and turneth unto you in mercy. Recite, then, of the Qur'an that which is easy for you. He knoweth that there are sick folk among you, while others travel in the land in search of Allah's bounty, and others (still) are fighting for the cause of Allah. So recite of it that which is easy (for you), and establish worship and pay the poor-due, and (so) lend unto Allah a goodly loan. Whatsoever good ye send before you for your souls, ye will find it with Allah, better and greater in the recompense. And seek forgiveness of Allah. Lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.74. One Wrapped Up ( Al-Muddaththir)
074.001 O thou enveloped in thy cloak,
074.002 Arise and warn!
074.003 Thy Lord magnify,
074.004 Thy raiment purify,
074.005 Pollution shun!
074.006 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain!
074.007 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient!
074.008 For when the trumpet shall sound,
074.009 Surely that day will be a day of anguish,
074.010 Not of ease, for disbelievers.
074.011 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely,
074.012 And then bestowed upon him ample means,
074.013 And sons abiding in his presence
074.014 And made (life) smooth for him.
074.015 Yet he desireth that I should give more.
074.016 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations.
074.017 On him I shall impose a fearful doom.
074.018 For lo! he did consider; then he planned -
074.019 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned!
074.020 Again (self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! -
074.021 Then looked he,
074.022 Then frowned he and showed displeasure.
074.023 Then turned he away in pride
074.024 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old;
074.025 This is naught else than speech of mortal man.
074.026 Him shall I fling unto the burning.
074.027 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! -
074.028 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught
074.029 It shrivelleth the man.
074.030 Above it are nineteen.
074.031 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude ? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals.
074.032 Nay, by the Moon
074.033 And the night when it withdraweth
074.034 And the dawn when it shineth forth,
074.035 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents)
074.036 As a warning unto men,
074.037 Unto him of you who will advance or hang back.
074.038 Every soul is a pledge for its own deeds;
074.039 Save those who will stand on the right hand.
074.040 In gardens they will ask one another
074.041 Concerning the guilty:
074.042 What hath brought you to this burning ?
074.043 They will answer: We were not of those who prayed
074.044 Nor did we feed the wretched.
074.045 We used to wade (in vain dispute) with (all) waders,
074.046 And we used to deny the Day of Judgment,
074.047 Till the Inevitable came unto us.
074.048 The mediation of no mediators will avail them then.
074.049 Why now turn they away from the Admonishment,
074.050 As they were frightened asses
074.051 Fleeing from a lion ?
074.052 Nay, but everyone of them desireth that he should be given open pages (from Allah).
074.053 Nay, verily. They fear not the Hereafter.
074.054 Nay, verily. Lo! this is an Admonishment.
074.055 So whosoever will may heed.
074.056 And they will not heed unless Allah willeth (it). He is the fount of fear. He is the fount of Mercy.75. The Resurrection (Al-Qiyámah)
075.001 Nay, I swear by the Day of Resurrection;
075.002 Nay, I swear by the accusing soul (that this Scripture is true).
075.003 Thinketh man that We shall not assemble his bones ?
075.004 Yea, verily. We are Able to restore his very fingers!
075.005 But man would fain deny what is before him.
075.006 He asketh: When will be this Day of Resurrection ?
075.007 But when sight is confounded
075.008 And the moon is eclipsed
075.009 And sun and moon are united,
075.010 On that day man will cry: Whither to flee!
075.011 Alas! No refuge!
075.012 Unto thy Lord is the recourse that day.
075.013 On that day man is told the tale of that which he hath sent before and left behind.
075.014 Oh, but man is a telling witness against himself,
075.015 Although he tender his excuses.
075.016 Stir not thy tongue herewith to hasten it.
075.017 Lo! upon Us (resteth) the putting together thereof and the reading thereof.
075.018 And when We read it, follow thou the reading;
075.019 Then lo! upon Us (resteth) the explanation thereof.
075.020 Nay, but ye do love the fleeting Now
075.021 And neglect the Hereafter.
075.022 That day will faces be resplendent,
075.023 Looking toward their Lord;
075.024 And that day will other faces be despondent,
075.025 Thou wilt know that some great disaster is about to fall on them.
075.026 Nay, but when the life cometh up to the throat
075.027 And men say: Where is the wizard (who can save him now) ?
075.028 And he knoweth that it is the parting;
075.029 And agony is heaped on agony;
075.030 Unto thy Lord that day will be the driving.
075.031 For he neither trusted, nor prayed.
075.032 But he denied and flouted.
075.033 Then went he to his folk with glee.
075.034 Nearer unto thee and nearer,
075.035 Again nearer unto thee and nearer (is the doom).
075.036 Thinketh man that he is to be left aimless ?
075.037 Was he not a drop of fluid which gushed forth ?
075.038 Then he became a clot; then (Allah) shaped and fashioned
075.039 And made of him a pair, the male and female.
075.040 Is not He (Who doeth so) Able to bring the dead to life ?76. Time, Man (Ad-Dahr, Al-Insán)
076.001 Hath there come upon man (ever) any period of time in which he was a thing unremembered ?
076.002 Lo! We create man from a drop of thickened fluid to test him; so We make him hearing, knowing.
076.003 Lo! We have shown him the way, whether he be grateful or disbelieving.
076.004 Lo! We have prepared for disbelievers manacles and carcans and a raging fire.
076.005 Lo! the righteous shall drink of a cup whereof the mixture is of Kafur,
076.006 A spring wherefrom the slaves of Allah drink, making it gush forth abundantly,
076.007 (Because) they perform the vow and fear a day whereof the evil is wide-spreading,
076.008 And feed with food the needy wretch, the orphan and the prisoner, for love of Him,
076.009 (Saying): We feed you, for the sake of Allah only. We wish for no reward nor thanks from you;
076.010 Lo! we fear from our Lord a day of frowning and of fate.
076.011 Therefor Allah hath warded off from them the evil of that day, and hath made them find brightness and joy;
076.012 And hath awarded them for all that they endured, a Garden and silk attire;
076.013 Reclining therein upon couches, they will find there neither (heat of) a sun nor bitter cold.
076.014 The shade thereof is close upon them and the clustered fruits thereof bow down.
076.015 Goblets of silver are brought round for them, and beakers (as) of glass
076.016 (Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds).
076.017 There are they watered with a cup whereof the mixture is of Zanjabil,
076.018 (The water of) a spring therein, named Salsabil.
076.019 There wait on them immortal youths, whom, when thou seest, thou wouldst take for scattered pearls.
076.020 When thou seest, thou wilt see there bliss and high estate.
076.021 Their raiment will be fine green silk and gold embroidery. Bracelets of silver will they wear. Their Lord will slake their thirst with a pure drink.
076.022 (And it will be said unto them): Lo! this is a reward for you. Your endeavour (upon earth) hath found acceptance.
076.023 Lo! We, even We, have revealed unto thee the Qur'an, a revelation;
076.024 So submit patiently to thy Lord's command, and obey not of them any guilty one or disbeliever.
076.025 Remember the name of thy Lord at morn and evening.
076.026 And worship Him (a portion) of the night. And glorify Him through the livelong night.
076.027 Lo! these love fleeting life, and put behind them (the remembrance of) a grievous day.
076.028 We, even We, created them, and strengthened their frame. And when We will, We can replace them, bringing others like them in their stead.
076.029 Lo! this is an Admonishment, that whosoever will may choose a way unto his Lord.
076.030 Yet ye will not, unless Allah willeth. Lo! Allah is Knower, Wise.
076.031 He maketh whom He will to enter His mercy, and for evil-doers hath prepared a painful doom.77. Those Sent Forth (Al-Mursalát)
077.001 By the emissary winds, (sent) one after another
077.002 By the raging hurricanes,
077.003 By those which cause earth's vegetation to revive;
077.004 By those who winnow with a winnowing,
077.005 By those who bring down the Reminder,
077.006 To excuse or to warn,
077.007 Surely that which ye are promised will befall.
077.008 So when the stars are put out,
077.009 And when the sky is riven asunder,
077.010 And when the mountains are blown away,
077.011 And when the messengers are brought unto their time appointed -
077.012 For what day is the time appointed ?
077.013 For the Day of Decision.
077.014 And what will convey unto thee what the Day of Decision is! -
077.015 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
077.016 Destroyed We not the former folk,
077.017 Then caused the latter folk to follow after ?
077.018 Thus deal We ever with the guilty.
077.019 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
077.020 Did We not create you from a base fluid
077.021 Which We laid up in a safe abode
077.022 For a known term ?
077.023 Thus We arranged. How excellent is Our arranging!
077.024 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
077.025 Have We not made the earth a receptacle
077.026 Both for the living and the dead,
077.027 And placed therein high mountains and given you to drink sweet water therein ?
077.028 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
077.029 (It will be said unto them:) Depart unto that (doom) which ye used to deny;
077.030 Depart unto the shadow falling threefold,
077.031 (Which yet is) no relief nor shelter from the flame.
077.032 Lo! it throweth up sparks like the castles,
077.033 (Or) as it might be camels of bright yellow hue.
077.034 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
077.035 This is a day wherein they speak not,
077.036 Nor are they suffered to put forth excuses.
077.037 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
077.038 This is the Day of Decision, We have brought you and the men of old together.
077.039 If now ye have any wit, outwit Me.
077.040 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
077.041 Lo! those who kept their duty are amid shade and fountains,
077.042 And fruits such as they desire.
077.043 (Unto them it is said:) Eat, drink and welcome, O ye blessed, in return for what ye did.
077.044 Thus do We reward the good.
077.045 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
077.046 Eat and take your ease (on earth) a little. Lo! ye are guilty.
077.047 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
077.048 When it is said unto them: Bow down, they bow not down!
077.049 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
077.050 In what statement, after this, will they believe ?78. The (Great) News (An-Nabaa)
078.001 Whereof do they question one another ?
078.002 (It is) of the awful tidings,
078.003 Concerning which they are in disagreement.
078.004 Nay, but they will come to know!
078.005 Nay, again, but they will come to know!
078.006 Have We not made the earth an expanse,
078.007 And the high hills bulwarks ?
078.008 And We have created you in pairs,
078.009 And have appointed your sleep for repose,
078.010 And have appointed the night as a cloak,
078.011 And have appointed the day for livelihood.
078.012 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens),
078.013 And have appointed a dazzling lamp,
078.014 And have sent down from the rainy clouds abundant water,
078.015 Thereby to produce grain and plant,
078.016 And gardens of thick foliage.
078.017 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time,
078.018 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes,
078.019 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates,
078.020 And the hills are set in motion and become as a mirage.
078.021 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush,
078.022 A home for the rebellious.
078.023 They will abide therein for ages.
078.024 Therein taste they neither coolness nor (any) drink
078.025 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold:
078.026 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds).
078.027 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning;
078.028 They called Our revelations false with strong denial.
078.029 Everything have We recorded in a Book.
078.030 So taste (of that which ye have earned). No increase do We give you save of torment.
078.031 Lo! for the duteous is achievement -
078.032 Gardens enclosed and vineyards,
078.033 And maidens for companions,
078.034 And a full cup.
078.035 There hear they never vain discourse, nor lying -
078.036 Requital from thy Lord - a gift in payment -
078.037 Lord of the heavens and the earth, and (all) that is between them, the Beneficent; with Whom none can converse.
078.038 On the day when the angels and the Spirit stand arrayed, they speak not, saving him whom the Beneficent alloweth and who speaketh right.
078.039 That is the True Day. So whoso will should seek recourse unto his Lord.
078.040 Lo! We warn you of a doom at hand, a day whereon a man will look on that which his own hands have sent before, and the disbeliever will cry: "Would that I were dust!"
79. Those Who Tear O ut (An-Náziàát)
079.001 By those who drag forth to destruction,
079.002 By the meteors rushing,
079.003 By the lone stars floating,
079.004 By the angels hastening,
079.005 And those who govern the event,
079.006 On the day when the first trump resoundeth.
079.007 And the second followeth it,
079.008 On that day hearts beat painfully
079.009 While eyes are downcast
079.010 (Now) they are saying: Shall we really be restored to our first state
079.011 Even after we are crumbled bones ?
079.012 They say: Then that would be a vain proceeding.
079.013 Surely it will need but one shout,
079.014 And lo! they will be awakened.
079.015 Hath there come unto thee the history of Moses ?
079.016 How his Lord called him in the holy vale of Tuwa,
079.017 (Saying:) Go thou unto Pharaoh - Lo! he hath rebelled -
079.018 And say (unto him): Hast thou (will) to grow (in grace) ?
079.019 Then I will guide thee to thy Lord and thou shalt fear (Him).
079.020 And he showed him the tremendous token.
079.021 But he denied and disobeyed,
079.022 Then turned he away in haste,
079.023 Then gathered he and summoned
079.024 And proclaimed: "I (Pharaoh) am your Lord the Highest."
079.025 So Allah seized him (and made him) an example for the after (life) and for the former.
079.026 Lo! herein is indeed a lesson for him who feareth.
079.027 Are ye the harder to create, or is the heaven that He built ?
079.028 He raised the height thereof and ordered it;
079.029 And He made dark the night thereof, and He brought forth the morn thereof.
079.030 And after that He spread the earth,
079.031 And produced therefrom the water thereof and the pasture thereof,
079.032 And He made fast the hills,
079.033 A provision for you and for your cattle.
079.034 But when the great disaster cometh,
079.035 The day when man will call to mind his (whole) endeavour,
079.036 And hell will stand forth visible to him who seeth,
079.037 Then, as for him who rebelled
079.038 And chose the life of the world,
079.039 Lo! hell will be his home.
079.040 But as for him who feared to stand before his Lord and restrained his soul from lust,
079.041 Lo! the Garden will be his home.
079.042 They ask thee of the Hour: when will it come to port ?
079.043 Why (ask they) ? What hast thou to tell thereof ?
079.044 Unto thy Lord belongeth (knowledge of) the term thereof.
079.045 Thou art but a warner unto him who feareth it.
079.046 On the day when they behold it, it will be as if they had but tarried for an evening or the morn thereof.
80. He Frowned (Àbasa)
080.001 He frowned and turned away
080.002 Because the blind man came unto him.
080.003 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace)
080.004 Or take heed and so the reminder might avail him ?
080.005 As for him who thinketh himself independent,
080.006 Unto him thou payest regard.
080.007 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace).
080.008 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose
080.009 And hath fear,
080.010 From him thou art distracted.
080.011 Nay, but verily it is an Admonishment,
080.012 So let whosoever will pay heed to it,
080.013 On honoured leaves
080.014 Exalted, purified,
080.015 (Set down) by scribes
080.016 Noble and righteous.
080.017 Man is (self-)destroyed: how ungrateful!
080.018 From what thing doth He create him ?
080.019 From a drop of seed. He createth him and proportioneth him,
080.020 Then maketh the way easy for him,
080.021 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him;
080.022 Then, when He will, He bringeth him again to life.
080.023 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him.
080.024 Let man consider his food:
080.025 How We pour water in showers
080.026 Then split the earth in clefts
080.027 And cause the grain to grow therein
080.028 And grapes and green fodder
080.029 And olive-trees and palm-trees
080.030 And garden-closes of thick foliage
080.031 And fruits and grasses:
080.032 Provision for you and your cattle.
080.033 But when the Shout cometh
080.034 On the day when a man fleeth from his brother
080.035 And his mother and his father
080.036 And his wife and his children,
080.037 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others).
080.038 On that day faces will be bright as dawn,
080.039 Laughing, rejoicing at good news;
080.040 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them,
080.041 Veiled in darkness,
080.042 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked.81. The Folding Up ( At-Takwír)
081.001 When the sun is overthrown,
081.002 And when the stars fall,
081.003 And when the hills are moved,
081.004 And when the camels big with young are abandoned,
081.005 And when the wild beasts are herded together,
081.006 And when the seas rise,
081.007 And when souls are reunited,
081.008 And when the girl-child that was buried alive is asked
081.009 For what sin she was slain,
081.010 And when the pages are laid open,
081.011 And when the sky is torn away,
081.012 And when hell is lighted,
081.013 And when the Garden is brought nigh,
081.014 (Then) every soul will know what it hath made ready.
081.015 Oh, but I call to witness the planets,
081.016 The stars which rise and set,
081.017 And the close of night,
081.018 And the breath of morning
081.019 That this is in truth the word of an honoured messenger,
081.020 Mighty, established in the presence of the Lord of the Throne,
081.021 (One) to be obeyed, and trustworthy;
081.022 And your comrade is not mad.
081.023 Surely he beheld Him on the clear horizon.
081.024 And he is not avid of the Unseen.
081.025 Nor is this the utterance of a devil worthy to be stoned.
081.026 Whither then go ye ?
081.027 This is naught else than a reminder unto creation,
081.028 Unto whomsoever of you willeth to walk straight.
081.029 And ye will not, unless (it be) that Allah willeth, the Lord of Creation.82. The Cleaving Asu nder (Al-Infitár)
082.001 When the heaven is cleft asunder,
082.002 When the planets are dispersed,
082.003 When the seas are poured forth,
082.004 And the sepulchres are overturned,
082.005 A soul will know what it hath sent before (it) and what left behind.
082.006 O man! What hath made thee careless concerning thy Lord, the Bountiful,
082.007 Who created thee, then fashioned, then proportioned thee ?
082.008 Into whatsoever form He will, He casteth thee.
082.009 Nay, but ye deny the Judgment.
082.010 Lo! there are above you guardians,
082.011 Generous and recording,
082.012 Who know (all) that ye do.
082.013 Lo! the righteous verily will be in delight.
082.014 And lo! the wicked verily will be in hell;
082.015 They will burn therein on the Day of Judgment,
082.016 And will not be absent thence.
082.017 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Day of Judgment is!
082.018 Again, what will convey unto thee what the Day of Judgment is!
082.019 A day on which no soul hath power at all for any (other) soul. The (absolute) command on that day is Allah's.83. Dealing in Fraud (Al-Mutaffifín)
083.001 Woe unto the defrauders:
083.002 Those who when they take the measure from mankind demand it full,
083.003 But if they measure unto them or weight for them, they cause them loss.
083.004 Do such (men) not consider that they will be raised again
083.005 Unto an Awful Day,
083.006 The day when (all) mankind stand before the Lord of the Worlds ?
083.007 Nay, but the record of the vile is in Sijjin -
083.008 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! -
083.009 A written record.
083.010 Woe unto the repudiators on that day!
083.011 Those who deny the Day of Judgment
083.012 Which none denieth save each criminal transgressor,
083.013 Who, when thou readest unto him Our revelations, saith: (Mere) fables of the men of old.
083.014 Nay, but that which they have earned is rust upon their hearts.
083.015 Nay, but surely on that day they will be covered from (the mercy of) their Lord.
083.016 Then lo! they verily will burn in hell,
083.017 And it will be said (unto them): This is that which ye used to deny.
083.018 Nay, but the record of the righteous is in 'Illiyin -
083.019 Ah, what will convey unto thee what 'Illiyin is! -
083.020 A written record,
083.021 Attested by those who are brought near (unto their Lord).
083.022 Lo! the righteous verily are in delight,
083.023 On couches, gazing,
083.024 Thou wilt know in their faces the radiance of delight.
083.025 They are given to drink of a pure wine, sealed,
083.026 Whose seal is musk - for this let (all) those strive who strive for bliss -
083.027 And mixed with water of Tasnim,
083.028 A spring whence those brought near (to Allah) drink.
083.029 Lo! the guilty used to laugh at those who believed,
083.030 And wink one to another when they passed them;
083.031 And when they returned to their own folk, they returned jesting;
083.032 And when they saw them they said: Lo! these have gone astray.
083.033 Yet they were not sent as guardians over them.
083.034 This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers,
083.035 On high couches, gazing.
083.036 Are not the disbelievers paid for what they used to do ?84. The Rending Asun der (Al-Inshiqáq)
084.001 When the heaven is split asunder
084.002 And attentive to her Lord in fear,
084.003 And when the earth is spread out
084.004 And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty
084.005 And attentive to her Lord in fear!
084.006 Thou, verily, O man, art working toward thy Lord a work which thou wilt meet (in His presence).
084.007 Then whoso is given his account in his right hand
084.008 He truly will receive an easy reckoning
084.009 And will return unto his folk in joy.
084.010 But whoso is given his account behind his back,
084.011 He surely will invoke destruction
084.012 And be thrown to scorching fire.
084.013 He verily lived joyous with his folk,
084.014 He verily deemed that he would never return (unto Allah).
084.015 Nay, but lo! his Lord is ever looking on him!
084.016 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset,
084.017 And by the night and all that it enshroudeth,
084.018 And by the moon when she is at the full,
084.019 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane.
084.020 What aileth them, then, that they believe not
084.021 And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah) ?
084.022 Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny;
084.023 And Allah knoweth best what they are hiding.
084.024 So give them tidings of a painful doom,
084.025 Save those who believe and do good works, for theirs is a reward unfailing.85. The Zodiacal Signs (Al-Burüj)
085.001 By the heaven, holding mansions of the stars,
085.002 And by the Promised Day.
085.003 And by the witness and that whereunto he beareth testimony,
085.004 (Self-)destroyed were the owners of the ditch
085.005 Of the fuel-fed fire,
085.006 When they sat by it,
085.007 And were themselves the witnesses of what they did to the believers.
085.008 They had naught against them save that they believed in Allah, the Mighty, the Owner of Praise,
085.009 Him unto Whom belongeth the Sovereignty of the heavens and the earth; and Allah is of all things the Witness.
085.010 Lo! they who persecute believing men and believing women and repent not, theirs verily will be the doom of hell, and theirs the doom of burning.
085.011 Lo! those who believe and do good works, theirs will be Gardens underneath which rivers flow. That is the Great Success.
085.012 Lo! the punishment of thy Lord is stern.
085.013 Lo! He it is Who produceth, then reproduceth,
085.014 And He is the Forgiving, the Loving,
085.015 Lord of the Throne of Glory,
085.016 Doer of what He will.
085.017 Hath there come unto thee the story of the hosts
085.018 Of Pharaoh and (the tribe of) Thamud ?
085.019 Nay, but those who disbelieve live in denial
085.020 And Allah, all unseen, surroundeth them.
085.021 Nay, but it is a glorious Qur'an.
085.022 On a guarded tablet.
86. The Night Visitant (At-Táriq)
086.001 By the heaven and the Morning Star
086.002 - Ah, what will tell thee what the Morning Star is!
086.003 - The piercing Star!
086.004 No human soul but hath a guardian over it.
086.005 So let man consider from what he is created.
086.006 He is created from a gushing fluid
086.007 That issued from between the loins and ribs.
086.008 Lo! He verily is Able to return him (unto life)
086.009 On the day when hidden thoughts shall be searched out.
086.010 Then will he have no might nor any helper.
086.011 By the heaven which giveth the returning rain,
086.012 And the earth which splitteth (with the growth of trees and plants)
086.013 Lo! this (Qur'an) is a conclusive word,
086.014 It is no pleasantry.
086.015 Lo! they plot a plot (against thee, O Muhammad)
086.016 And I plot a plot (against them).
086.017 So give a respite to the disbelievers. Deal thou gently with them for a while.
87. The Most High (Al-Alá)
087.001 Praise the name of thy Lord the Most High,
087.002 Who createth, then disposeth;
087.003 Who measureth, then guideth;
087.004 Who bringeth forth the pasturage,
087.005 Then turneth it to russet stubble.
087.006 We shall make thee read (O Muhammad) so that thou shalt not forget
087.007 Save that which Allah willeth. Lo! He knoweth the disclosed and that which still is hidden;
087.008 And We shall ease thy way unto the state of ease.
087.009 Therefor remind (men), for of use is the reminder.
087.010 He will heed who feareth,
087.011 But the most hapless will flout it,
087.012 He who will be flung to the great Fire
087.013 Wherein he will neither die nor live.
087.014 He is successful who groweth,
087.015 And remembereth the name of his Lord, so prayeth,
087.016 But ye prefer the life of the world
087.017 Although the Hereafter is better and more lasting.
087.018 Lo! This is in the former scrolls.
087.019 The Books of Abraham and Moses.88. The Overwhelming Event (Al-Gáshiya)
088.001 Hath there come unto thee tidings of the Overwhelming ?
088.002 On that day (many) faces will be downcast,
088.003 Toiling, weary,
088.004 Scorched by burning fire,
088.005 Drinking from a boiling spring,
088.006 No food for them save bitter thorn-fruit
088.007 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger.
088.008 In that day other faces will be calm,
088.009 Glad for their effort past,
088.010 In a high Garden
088.011 Where they hear no idle speech,
088.012 Wherein is a gushing spring,
088.013 Wherein are couches raised
088.014 And goblets set at hand
088.015 And cushions ranged
088.016 And silken carpets spread.
088.017 Will they not regard the camels, how they are created ?
088.018 And the heaven, how it is raised ?
088.019 And the hills, how they are set up ?
088.020 And the earth, how it is spread ?
088.021 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer,
088.022 Thou art not at all a warder over them.
088.023 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth,
088.024 Allah will punish him with direst punishment.
088.025 Lo! unto Us is their return
088.026 And Ours their reckoning.89. The Dawn (Al-Fajr)
089.001 By the Dawn
089.002 And ten nights,
089.003 And the Even and the Odd,
089.004 And the night when it departeth,
089.005 There surely is an oath for thinking man.
089.006 Dost thou not consider how thy Lord dealt with (the tribe of) A'ad,
089.007 With many-columned Iram,
089.008 The like of which was not created in the lands;
089.009 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley;
089.010 And with Pharaoh, firm of might,
089.011 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands,
089.012 And multiplied iniquity therein ?
089.013 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment.
089.014 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful.
089.015 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me.
089.016 But whenever He trieth him by straitening his means of life, he saith: My Lord despiseth me.
089.017 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan
089.018 And urge not on the feeding of the poor.
089.019 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed.
089.020 And love wealth with abounding love.
089.021 Nay, but when the earth is ground to atoms, grinding, grinding,
089.022 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank,
089.023 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him) ?
089.024 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life!
089.025 None punisheth as He will punish on that day!
089.026 None bindeth as He then will bind.
089.027 But ah! thou soul at peace!
089.028 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure!
089.029 Enter thou among My bondmen!
089.030 Enter thou My Garden!90. The City (Al-Balad)
090.001 Nay, I swear by this city -
090.002 And thou art an indweller of this city -
090.003 And the begetter and that which he begat,
090.004 We verily have created man in an atmosphere:
090.005 Thinketh he that none hath power over him ?
090.006 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth:
090.007 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him ?
090.008 Did We not assign unto him two eyes
090.009 And a tongue and two lips,
090.010 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways ?
090.011 But he hath not attempted the Ascent -
090.012 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! -
090.013 (It is) to free a slave,
090.014 And to feed in the day of hunger.
090.015 An orphan near of kin,
090.016 Or some poor wretch in misery,
090.017 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity.
090.018 Their place will be on the right hand.
090.019 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand.
090.020 Fire will be an awning over them.91. The Sun (Ash-Shams)
091.001 By the sun and his brightness,
091.002 And the moon when she followeth him,
091.003 And the day when it revealeth him,
091.004 And the night when it enshroudeth him,
091.005 And the heaven and Him Who built it,
091.006 And the earth and Him Who spread it,
091.007 And a soul and Him Who perfected it
091.008 And inspired it (with conscience of) what is wrong for it and (what is) right for it.
091.009 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow,
091.010 And he is indeed a failure who stunteth it.
091.011 (The tribe of) Thamud denied (the truth) in their rebellious pride,
091.012 When the basest of them broke forth
091.013 And the messenger of Allah said: It is the she-camel of Allah, so let her drink!
091.014 But they denied him, and they hamstrung her, so Allah doomed them for their sin and rased (their dwellings).
091.015 He dreadeth not the sequel (of events).92. The Night (Al-Lail)
092.001 By the night enshrouding
092.002 And the day resplendent
092.003 And Him Who hath created male and female,
092.004 Lo! your effort is dispersed (toward divers ends).
092.005 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah)
092.006 And believeth in goodness;
092.007 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease.
092.008 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent,
092.009 And disbelieveth in goodness;
092.010 Surely We will ease his way unto adversity.
092.011 His riches will not save him when he perisheth.
092.012 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance
092.013 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former.
092.014 Therefor have I warned you of the flaming Fire
092.015 Which only the most wretched must endure,
092.016 He who denieth and turneth away.
092.017 Far removed from it will be the righteous
092.018 Who giveth his wealth that he may grow (in goodness).
092.019 And none hath with him any favour for reward,
092.020 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High.
092.021 He verily will be content.
093.001 By the morning hours
093.002 And by the night when it is stillest,
093.003 Thy Lord hath not forsaken thee nor doth He hate thee,
093.004 And verily the latter portion will be better for thee than the former,
093.005 And verily thy Lord will give unto thee so that thou wilt be content.
093.006 Did He not find thee an orphan and protect (thee) ?
093.007 Did He not find thee wandering and direct (thee) ?
093.008 Did He not find thee destitute and enrich (thee) ?
093.009 Therefor the orphan oppress not,
093.010 Therefor the beggar drive not away,
093.011 Therefor of the bounty of thy Lord be thy discourse.
94. The Expansion (Al-Inshiráh)
094.001 Have We not caused thy bosom to dilate,
094.002 And eased thee of the burden
094.003 Which weighed down thy back;
094.004 And exalted thy fame ?
094.005 But lo! with hardship goeth ease,
094.006 Lo! with hardship goeth ease;
094.007 So when thou art relieved, still toil
094.008 And strive to please thy Lord.95. The Fig (At-Tín)
095.001 By the fig and the olive,
095.002 By Mount Sinai,
095.003 And by this land made safe;
095.004 Surely We created man of the best stature
095.005 Then we reduced him to the lowest of the low,
095.006 Save those who believe and do good works, and theirs is a reward unfailing.
095.007 So who henceforth will give the lie to thee about the judgment ?
095.008 Is not Allah the most conclusive of all judges ?96. The Leech-like Clot (Al-Álaq)
096.001 Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth,
096.002 Createth man from a clot.
096.003 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous,
096.004 Who teacheth by the pen,
096.005 Teacheth man that which he knew not.
096.006 Nay, but verily man is rebellious
096.007 That he thinketh himself independent!
096.008 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return.
096.009 Hast thou seen him who dissuadeth
096.010 A slave when he prayeth ?
096.011 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah)
096.012 Or enjoineth piety ?
096.013 Hast thou seen if he denieth (Allah's guidance) and is froward ?
096.014 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth ?
096.015 Nay, but if he cease not We will seize him by the forelock -
096.016 The lying, sinful forelock -
096.017 Then let him call upon his henchmen!
096.018 We will call the guards of hell.
096.019 Nay, Obey not thou him. But prostrate thyself, and draw near (unto Allah).97. The Night of Power (Al-Qadr)
097.001 Lo! We revealed it on the Night of Predestination.
097.002 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Night of Power is!
097.003 The Night of Power is better than a thousand months.
097.004 The angels and the Spirit descend therein, by the permission of their Lord, with all decrees.
097.005 (The night is) Peace until the rising of the dawn.98. The Clear Evidence (Al-Baiyina)
098.001 Those who disbelieve among the People of the Scripture and the idolaters could not have left off (erring) till the clear proof came unto them,
098.002 A messenger from Allah, reading purified pages
098.003 Containing correct scriptures.
098.004 Nor were the People of the Scripture divided until after the clear proof came unto them.
098.005 And they are ordered naught else than to serve Allah, keeping religion pure for Him, as men by nature upright, and to establish worship and to pay the poor-due. That is true religion.
098.006 Lo! those who disbelieve, among the People of the Scripture and the idolaters, will abide in fire of hell. They are the worst of created beings.
098.007 (And) lo! those who believe and do good works are the best of created beings.
098.008 Their reward is with their Lord: Gardens of Eden underneath which rivers flow, wherein they dwell for ever. Allah hath pleasure in them and they have pleasure in Him. This is (in store) for him who feareth his Lord.99. The Convulsion (Az-Zalzalah)
099.001 When Earth is shaken with her (final) earthquake
099.002 And Earth yieldeth up her burdens,
099.003 And man saith: What aileth her ?
099.004 That day she will relate her chronicles,
099.005 Because thy Lord inspireth her.
099.006 That day mankind will issue forth in scattered groups to be shown their deeds.
099.007 And whoso doeth good an atom's weight will see it then,
099.008 And whoso doeth ill an atom's weight will see it then.100. Those that Run (Al-Àdiyát)
100.001 By the snorting courses,
100.002 Striking sparks of fire
100.003 And scouring to the raid at dawn,
100.004 Then, therewith, with their trail of dust,
100.005 Cleaving, as one, the centre (of the foe),
100.006 Lo! man is an ingrate unto his Lord
100.007 And lo! he is a witness unto that;
100.008 And lo! in the love of wealth he is violent.
100.009 Knoweth he not that, when the contents of the graves are poured forth
100.010 And the secrets of the breasts are made known,
100.011 On that day will their Lord be perfectly informed concerning them.
101.001 The Calamity!
101.002 What is the Calamity ?
101.003 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Calamity is!
101.004 A day wherein mankind will be as thickly-scattered moths
101.005 And the mountains will become as carded wool.
101.006 Then, as for him whose scales are heavy (with good works),
101.007 He will live a pleasant life.
101.008 But as for him whose scales are light,
101.009 A bereft and Hungry One will be his mother,
101.010 Ah, what will convey unto thee what she is! -
101.011 Raging Fire.
102. Piling Up (At- Takáthur)
102.001 Rivalry in worldly increase distracteth you
102.002 Until ye come to the graves.
102.003 Nay, but ye will come to know!
102.004 Nay, but ye will come to know!
102.005 Nay, would that ye knew (now) with a sure knowledge!
102.006 For ye will behold hell-fire.
102.007 Aye, ye will behold it with sure vision.
102.008 Then, on that day, ye will be asked concerning pleasure.103. The Time Through Ages (Al-Àsr)
103.001 By the declining day,
103.002 Lo! man is a state of loss,
103.003 Save those who believe and do good works, and exhort one another to truth and exhort one another to endurance.104. The Scandal-monger (Al-Humaza)
104.001 Woe unto every slandering traducer,
104.002 Who hath gathered wealth (of this world) and arranged it.
104.003 He thinketh that his wealth will render him immortal.
104.004 Nay, but verily he will be flung to the Consuming One.
104.005 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Consuming One is!
104.006 (It is) the fire of Allah, kindled,
104.007 Which leapeth up over the hearts (of men).
104.008 Lo! it is closed in on them
104.009 In outstretched columns.105. The Elephant ( Al-Fíl)
105.001 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord dealt with the owners of the Elephant ?
105.002 Did He not bring their stratagem to naught,
105.003 And send against them swarms of flying creatures,
105.004 Which pelted them with stones of baked clay,
105.005 And made them like green crops devoured (by cattle) ?106. Quraish.
106.001 For the taming of Qureysh.
106.002 For their taming (We cause) the caravans to set forth in winter and summer.
106.003 So let them worship the Lord of this House,
106.004 Who hath fed them against hunger and hath made them safe from fear.107. Neighborly Needs (Al-Máün)
107.001 Hast thou observed him who belieth religion ?
107.002 That is he who repelleth the orphan,
107.003 And urgeth not the feeding of the needy.
107.004 Ah, woe unto worshippers
107.005 Who are heedless of their prayer;
107.006 Who would be seen (at worship)
107.007 Yet refuse small kindnesses!108. Abundance (Al-Kauthar)
108.001 Lo! We have given thee Abundance;
108.002 So pray unto thy Lord, and sacrifice.
108.003 Lo! it is thy insulter (and not thou) who is without posterity.109. Those Who Reject Faith (Al-Káfirün)
109.001 Say: O disbelievers!
109.002 I worship not that which ye worship;
109.003 Nor worship ye that which I worship.
109.004 And I shall not worship that which ye worship.
109.005 Nor will ye worship that which I worship.
109.006 Unto you your religion, and unto me my religion.110. Help (An-Nasr)
110.001 When Allah's succour and the triumph cometh
110.002 And thou seest mankind entering the religion of Allah in troops,
110.003 Then hymn the praises of thy Lord, and seek forgiveness of Him. Lo! He is ever ready to show mercy.
111.001 The power of Abu Lahab will perish, and he will perish.
111.002 His wealth and gains will not exempt him.
111.003 He will be plunged in flaming Fire,
111.004 And his wife, the wood-carrier,
111.005 Will have upon her neck a halter of palm-fibre.
112. Purity of Faith (Al-Ikhlás)
112.001 Say: He is Allah, the One!
112.002 Allah, the eternally Besought of all!
112.003 He begetteth not nor was begotten.
112.004 And there is none comparable unto Him.
113.001 Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of the Daybreak
113.002 From the evil of that which He created;
113.003 From the evil of the darkness when it is intense,
113.004 And from the evil of malignant witchcraft,
113.005 And from the evil of the envier when he envieth.
114.001 Say: I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,
114.002 The King of mankind,
114.003 The God of mankind,
114.004 From the evil of the sneaking whisperer,
114.005 Who whispereth in the hearts of mankind,
114.006 Of the jinn and of mankind.
